Questions About Sump-Pumps

Can You Install a Sump Pump in A Finished Basement?

Can You Install a Sump Pump in A Finished Basement?

Can You Install a Sump Pump in A Finished Basement?

Yes. Most sump pump installations are done inside finished basements. This will provide basement waterproofing, which is one of the best basement flood solutions to keep your home safe.

Why Should you have a Sump Pump

Can You Install a Sump Pump in A Finished Basement?

A sump pump installation is done in the basement or crawl space of a home to prevent ground water from flooding and causing damage to home. This can be particularly important in areas that are prone to heavy rain, snowmelt, or other sources of excess water. When water accumulates in the sump pit, the sump pump automatically turns on and pumps the water out and away from the home's foundation, preventing damage to the structure and potential water damage to personal property.  This is one of the best basement flood solutions when it comes to basement waterproofing.

Backup Sump Pumps

How do you know when to replace Sump Pump

How do you know when to replace Sump Pump

If your primary pump on your sump pump installation fails, having a backup battery kit sump pump installed will ensure that your home doesn’t flood. If the power should happen to go out during a big storm, a battery-powered water-supplied backup sump pump will keep working to protect your basement. This is the best basement flood solutions on the market for basement waterproofing.

How do you know when to replace Sump Pump

Like any equipment with moving parts, sump pumps will wear out over time and will need to be replaced. There is no set timeline related to how often a sump pump should be replaced since it depends on how often the pump runs. The average pump on a sump pump installation can last up to 10 years depending on how much it’s used! Our Drains Canada drain experts can test it for you, if you suspect there’s a problem. We offer you basement flood solutions and rectify the problems quickly.

How does a sump pump work?

Sump-Pump

What is the Sump-Pump installation procedure?

  1. Choose the right location: Select a spot in the basement or crawlspace where the sump pump can be installed. The location should be near a power source and have enough space for the pump and discharge pipe.
  2. Dig a pit: Dig a hole in the selected location to create a sump pit. The pit should be deep enough to accommodate the sump pump and its basin. The diameter should be about twice the size of the pump basin.
  3. Install the sump basin: Place the sump basin in the pit and make sure it's level. Install a layer of gravel at the bottom of the pit to promote drainage.
  4. Install the sump pump: Set the sump pump on the basin's bottom and connect it to the discharge pipe. Make sure the pump is level and secure it with bolts or screws.
  5. Connect the check valve: Install a check valve on the discharge pipe to prevent water from flowing back into the sump pit.
  6. Install the backup pump (optional): Consider installing a backup sump pump to ensure the system continues to work during power outages or pump failures.
  7. Test the system: Test the sump pump by filling the pit with water and observing its operation. Adjust the float switch to ensure proper pump activation.
  8. Finish the installation: Cover the sump pit with a lid to prevent debris from falling in and to reduce odors.

It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation and maintenance. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and testing the pump, can help ensure it functions properly and prevent costly water damage.
